Sports in Henderson

Henderson is its own sports town. The City of Henderson runs youth leagues, swim programs and rec center sports, and the private gyms and clubs cluster around Green Valley, Anthem and the Eastern Avenue corridor, so a family here rarely needs a practice field in Las Vegas.

Three decisions before you compare programs:

1. Rec or club. City leagues are the low-cost, low-commitment entry. Clubs add tryouts, travel and a longer season. Ask how many practices and games a week before you say yes to either.
2. Indoor or outdoor. From May through September outdoor practice moves to early morning or after sunset. Gymnastics, martial arts, swimming and indoor basketball are the summer picks.
3. Season or membership. Leagues bill by season; gyms bill monthly. Ask what happens if your kid quits partway, because that answer is where the money goes.

51 of the 220 programs are listed as free, 127 post a price range, and for the rest you ask. For city programs, ask whether there is a resident rate and what address counts. The most common listed ages are 3 to 18.
