About the Program
9th Island Taekwondo is a traditional taekwondo school at 175 N Stephanie St #140 in Henderson, run by Master Jaysen Ishida. The school says he has more than 20 years in the sport, holds a Kukkiwon 5th Dan black belt and competed on several USA Taekwondo national teams.
Classes are grouped by age and level. Tiny Tigers is for Ages 4 to 6, with 30 minute classes every weekday at 3:30 or 4:00 PM. Beginner Kids, for Ages 6 to 12, meets for 45 minutes at 4:30 PM. After that come the all-ages beginner and intermediate classes at 5:15 PM, a 7:00 to 8:00 PM class for teens and adults, and a Saturday competition team for kids who want to spar at tournaments.
A standard membership covers up to 3 classes a week, and unlimited plans are available; ask about prices when you call. New students get a free 2-week trial and need no experience. Plan on the long haul if a black belt is the goal: the school says it takes about 4 years on average. Call 702-808-7450 to book the trial.
