Sports in North Las Vegas

North Las Vegas has a shorter sports list than Las Vegas or Henderson, and that is not all bad: the options are close together, and the City of North Las Vegas runs youth leagues and swim programs through its recreation centers and pools. Private gyms and clubs sit around Aliante and Craig Ranch Regional Park, and northwest Las Vegas and Centennial Hills are a short drive if the list here comes up empty.

Start with the city. Ask when the seasonal leagues (soccer, basketball, baseball, flag football) open registration and whether residents pay less. In my opinion a city league is the right first season for any kid under 8; the club can wait until they ask for it.

Plan around the heat. From May through September, martial arts, gymnastics, swimming and indoor basketball are where kids stay active.

Ask about money. 14 of the 86 programs are listed as free, 41 post a price range, and the rest need a call. Ask whether a uniform is included and what gear you buy.

Ask about the week. Where practices and games are, how many per week, and whether there is a trial class or a free first session.
