Cookie Policy

Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. This page lists the ones PlayPivot sets, the ones Google sets on our pages, and how to turn them off. Our privacy policy has the full picture of what we collect.

Cookies we set

When you sign in, our login provider (Supabase) sets cookies that keep you signed in. You can search, read and browse PlayPivot without signing in.

If you open a private link from one of our emails (a message link for a business, or a schedule check link), we set a cookie that keeps that link working: pp_msg_link for 14 days orpp_sched_confirm for 30 days. It holds the link's code and nothing else, and scripts on the page cannot read it. Parents and visitors browsing the site never get it.

We also set one small cookie, pp_ft, when you arrive from a link we tagged or from another website. It holds the tags on that link (such as a campaign name) and the name of the site that sent you, and nothing else. If you later join The Weekly or start a claim, we save those two things with that signup so we can tell which partners and posts bring in parents and businesses. It lasts 30 days, goes to no one else, and holds no name, email or other personal detail. It is not set in our events widget on partner websites, or in a browser that sends Global Privacy Control. You can delete it at any time in your browser's cookie settings. That is all we set ourselves.

Things we keep in your browser

A few small things are kept in your browser's local storage, not in cookies: the city you picked or that we detected, your recent searches, the listings you viewed recently, and whether you have already seen our newsletter sign-up. Clearing your browser's site data removes them. For one visit, the tab also keeps the first PlayPivot page you opened, the name of the site that sent you and any campaign tag on our link, in session storage. We only get it if you send an inquiry, and it is gone when you close the tab.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to count page views and site events, such as which pages people open and which buttons they tap. It sets its own cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID). We use the numbers to see what parents find useful. You can block it with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.

Google AdSense advertising cookies

Ads may appear on our articles, guides, the weekend roundup and the events calendar pages. They never run on listing or search pages. The ads are served by Google AdSense, which loads on those pages and sets advertising cookies.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's advertising cookies (including the DoubleClick cookie) let Google and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to PlayPivot and other sites on the internet.
  • You can turn off personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings.
  • You can opt out of personalized ads from other participating ad companies with the Digital Advertising Alliance's YourAdChoices opt-out tool. Learn how it works at aboutads.info.

Consent mode

We use Google Consent Mode. We do not show a cookie banner. For visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, analytics and advertising storage are off by default, so Google Analytics and AdSense do not set those cookies and ads are not personalized. Everywhere else, including the United States, they are on by default, and you can turn them off with the links above.

Global Privacy Control

If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as your request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your information for ads. On that browser we tell Google not to use your visit for personalized ads, ask AdSense for ads that are not personalized, and turn off Google signals in Google Analytics. Ads can still appear, and Google Analytics still counts the visit. The signal covers only the browser that sends it. More in our privacy policy.

Google Maps

Listing pages, search results and some articles show a Google map. When a map loads, Google receives your IP address and may set or read its own cookies, under Google's privacy policy. We do not control those cookies.

What does not set cookies

Vercel Speed Insights, which measures how fast pages load, does not set cookies. Sentry, which sends us error reports when something breaks, is set up not to send cookies. Our events widget on school, PTA and library websites loads no ads and no analytics.

Managing cookies in your browser

Most browsers let you block all cookies, block third-party cookies only, or delete cookies you already have. Blocking third-party cookies stops Google's advertising and analytics cookies on our pages. Blocking all cookies also signs you out of PlayPivot.
