About the Program
Desert Girls Flag Football League is a girls-only, non-contact flag football league in Las Vegas for players ages 9 and up, roughly Grades 5 through 12. It runs in partnership with the Nevada Youth Football League, and part of its pitch is getting girls ready for high school teams, since girls flag football has been a CCSD high school sport since 2012.
Players are grouped by grade. The Rookie Division covers Grades 5 and 6 (ages 9 to 10) and teaches the basics of each position. Junior Varsity and Varsity add strategy and prepare girls for high school play, and the Collegiate Division for Grades 8 and up is the most competitive, where a year of experience helps but isn't required.
Games are 5 on 5 on a 30 by 70 yard field, with two 20 minute halves, and parents coach as volunteers. The registration fee covers a game jersey, season dues, fields, officials and insurance. Fees are not refunded, but the league turns them into an account credit that never expires and can be transferred. To sign up you upload a birth certificate or passport and a clear headshot.
