About the Program

Foster Kinship is a Nevada nonprofit with a Las Vegas office on West Sahara Avenue that helps grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings and family friends who have suddenly become the full-time caregiver for a child. Its services are free, offered across Nevada, and available in English and Spanish, in person or online.

The resource center is at 8691 W Sahara Ave, with appointments in person or remotely. Staff help with child-only TANF, SNAP and Medicaid applications, guardianship paperwork and free notary services, and two state welfare workers have offices on site. You do not need guardianship or custody to apply for child-only TANF. Families can also pick up emergency items such as diapers, clothing, car seats and school supplies.

Caregivers who qualify can get one-on-one case management for up to 6 months, built on a family assessment and a custom plan. Support groups are run by trained facilitators, and some include a meal and childcare. For the kids themselves, there are groups, respite and advocacy, plus family events through the year like back-to-school and holiday gatherings.

The Kinship Helpline runs Tuesday to Thursday from 9 AM to 7 PM and Friday to Saturday from 8 AM to 4 PM. It is not a crisis line; for urgent needs, Foster Kinship points families to Nevada 2-1-1. Call (702) 546-9988 to get started.
