In this guide

Youth basketball in the Las Vegas valley runs on a schedule nobody publishes in one place. Henderson's winter league plays December through February. The City of Las Vegas runs winter and summer seasons. Both charge different amounts, use different age brackets, and open registration on their own timelines.

When we checked in early October 2026, here's where things stood: Henderson's winter registration is open now and runs September 21 to November 7, and the City of Las Vegas had not posted its winter dates yet. The City of Las Vegas has published its price, age groups and season format, which is enough to plan around. For leagues, clubs and gyms around the valley, see our Las Vegas youth basketball guide.

If you only remember one thing: Henderson's winter registration closes November 7, fees go up after that deadline, and the city says late registration is not guaranteed. Sign up through Henderson's youth basketball page.

City of Las Vegas

What the city posts:

  • Ages 5 to 14, in 6u, 8u, 10u, 12u and 14u divisions
  • $95 per player as listed, with no resident/non-resident split
  • Played at Veterans Memorial, Mirabelli and Doolittle community centers, plus other sites as needed
  • 7 to 9 weeks, one game and one practice a week, 7 officiated games, with games on Saturdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

What isn't: the winter registration window. The city's posted season block currently covers fall sports only. A useful anchor from the fall season: registration opened about two months before play started. Watch the youth sports page.

There's also an Eastside Schools League for 3rd through 5th graders that includes basketball at Stupak Community Center, $95, with games on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Henderson

Henderson publishes more detail than anyone else in the valley, including this season's dates.

Henderson posts separate resident and non-resident fees, a lower rate before its November 7 deadline, and sibling discounts. Before the deadline, one child is $70 for residents and $80.50 for non-residents, and after it $80 and $92, as listed on the city's youth basketball page.

Henderson splits players into age divisions, so confirm your child's division with the city when you register. See the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation page.

Before the season, most divisions hold player ratings (evaluations used to balance teams) at Black Mountain Recreation Center and the Henderson Multigenerational Center. U6 and U8 skip ratings; U19 uses a draft. Rating dates for winter weren't posted when we checked.

Timing: winter registration runs September 21 to November 7, practices begin December 1, and games begin January 2, per the city's page. The city says program capacity is limited, so register early rather than waiting for the deadline.

One caution: Henderson's age chart still reads "age as of January 1, 2026," which looks like leftover text from last season. Confirm your child's division when you register rather than assuming.

North Las Vegas and Clark County

North Las Vegas runs its winter youth basketball league at Silver Mesa and the Neighborhood Recreation Center, in 8-9, 10-12 and 13-15 age divisions. The city lists a $70 fee, registration from Oct 30 to Dec 9, and games from January 16 to March 6, and registration had not opened when we checked. Questions go to the city's sports office at cnlvsports@cityofnorthlasvegas.com or (702) 633-1836.

What North Las Vegas has running now: Lil Ballers, a fall program in two age bands, 5 to 7 and 8 to 10, which started Oct 6 and runs through Oct 27 at Silver Mesa Recreation Center, $24 as listed on the city's sports page.

Clark County Parks & Rec offers youth basketball at Walnut and Hollywood recreation centers for roughly ages 6 to 8 and 9 to 11, described as running seasonally. The county's Walnut page lists no 2026-27 dates or fees, so call Walnut at (702) 455-8402 or Hollywood at (702) 455-0566.

Want to play right now?

If your kid wants a ball in their hands this month rather than in December:

  • City of Las Vegas beginner skills classes run at Doolittle, Cimarron Rose, Veterans Memorial and Mirabelli through the fall, with prices listed in the city's registration catalog. These are instruction, not leagues, and they're the cheapest way to test whether the interest is real.
  • i9 Sports runs basketball training sessions in the valley, including at Mountains Edge Regional Park and Paseo Verde Park in Henderson. Check its site for current dates, ages and prices.
  • The YMCA's Basketball Academy takes ages 3 to 13 at the Heinrich, Durango Hills and Centennial Hills branches. It's skills classes rather than a league, and dates and prices aren't published, so contact the branch.

Club and AAU

Club basketball is a different commitment level and a different calendar.

Vegas Elite has 2026-27 registration open and competes on the Nike EYBL circuit. It also hosts the Vegas Elite Invitational on April 3-4, 2027.

West Coast Reign, on the girls' side, holds tryouts two to three weeks before each season, which typically means March, June, September and December. Club costs usually include monthly dues plus tournament fees, memberships and a uniform, so ask the club for the full list. Add it up before you commit: a club season lands well north of the $95 the city charges for rec league.

For most kids, especially under 10, the rec league is the right first step. Club makes sense when a player is already practicing on their own and wants more than one game a week.

CCSD middle school basketball

Basketball is the winter sport for CCSD middle schools, and the district has posted a 2026-27 middle school basketball schedule. Tryout dates are set school by school, not district-wide, so the athletics office at your child's school is the only reliable source.

Two prerequisites catch families out: a current sports physical and Aktivate registration must both be done before your child can try out. Handle those in the fall, not the night before.

What to do this week

  1. If you're in Henderson, register before November 7. The window is open now, and the cheaper rate ends at that deadline.
  2. If you're in the city of Las Vegas, bookmark the youth sports page and budget the $95 the city charges.
  3. If they've never played, put them in a beginner skills class this month instead of waiting for December.
  4. If they're in middle school, get the physical and the Aktivate registration done now.

FAQ

When does youth basketball registration open in Las Vegas? The City of Las Vegas had not posted winter 2026-27 dates as of early October; its fall registration opened about two months before the season started. Henderson's winter registration runs September 21 to November 7, 2026, with practices starting December 1 and games starting January 2.

How much does youth basketball cost in Las Vegas? The City of Las Vegas charges a flat $95 for ages 5 to 14. Henderson charges $70 for residents and $80.50 for non-residents before its November 7 deadline, with sibling discounts, as listed on its youth basketball page. Club programs run much higher, with monthly dues plus tournament fees.

What age can kids start basketball in Las Vegas? City of Las Vegas leagues start at age 5 (6u division). Henderson offers U6 and U8 divisions in winter only. The YMCA's Basketball Academy takes kids as young as 3.

Does my child need to try out for a rec basketball league? No. Rec leagues take all comers. Henderson holds player ratings for most divisions, but those are evaluations used to balance teams, not cuts. U6 and U8 skip them entirely, and U19 uses a draft.

When is middle school basketball at CCSD? Winter. Tryout dates are set by each school rather than the district, so ask your school's athletics office, and make sure the sports physical and Aktivate registration are complete first.

How this guide was made

Monica Schoborg, PlayPivot's founder and a Las Vegas mom, reviews, edits and approves every guide before it goes live. Some guides are drafted with AI writing tools that draw only from PlayPivot's listings and each program's own pages. Prices, dates and ages are as of the date at the top of the page. Programs change, so confirm with them before you go. How we build PlayPivot
