Key takeaways
- CCSD is closed Nov 25, 26 and 27. Nov 25 is listed as a "First Contingency Day," meaning the district could use it as a makeup day if it has to, so watch for updates.
- City of Las Vegas No-School Fun Day runs Nov 25 only, K-8th grade, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., $20 or $35 a day depending on the center, as listed on the city's camps page. Registration is open now and requires advance sign-up.
- Nobody publicly posts Friday Nov 27 coverage yet. Henderson's program exists but hasn't posted November dates; the county and the Y hadn't either when we checked.
- Safekey does not run on days school is closed, in Las Vegas, Henderson or North Las Vegas. The city's No-School Fun Day is the substitute.
- Book winter break at the same time: City of Las Vegas winter camps (Dec 21-24 and Dec 28-31) are open now and fill.
In this guide
Thanksgiving break is short this year, which makes it sneaky. CCSD closes for three days: Wednesday November 25, Thursday November 26, and Friday November 27. Monday the 23rd and Tuesday the 24th are normal school days.
Here's the part that catches working parents: the City of Las Vegas runs a full-day camp on Wednesday the 25th, and then nothing on Friday the 27th. Thursday is Thanksgiving, so that's fine. Friday is a workday for a lot of people and the city's camps are closed.
If you need coverage that Friday, you need a plan before the week arrives. Here's what's actually open, what it costs, and what hasn't been posted yet.
Which days is school actually closed?
From the CCSD 2026-27 calendar: Wednesday Nov 25 is a no-school day and the district's First Contingency Day, Thursday Nov 26 is Thanksgiving, and Friday Nov 27 is Family Day. Mon Nov 23 and Tue Nov 24 are regular school days.
That contingency label matters. If CCSD needs to make up a closure day earlier in the year, Nov 25 is the first one it can claim, which would turn it back into a school day. Check the district calendar in mid-November before you pay for anything on the 25th.
City of Las Vegas: No-School Fun Day, Nov 25
The city runs No-School Fun Day on the days CCSD is closed, and for this break that is Wednesday Nov 25 only. Details as posted:
- Grades K-8, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Advance registration required: it is not a drop-in
- $20 a day at Doolittle, Dula and Stupak community centers
- $35 a day at Cimarron Rose and Veterans Memorial
- $35 a day at Mirabelli, which takes ages 3 to 5, as listed
Registration is open now. The city posts its No-School Fun Days well in advance (Nov 3 and Nov 25 are the ones still ahead this fall), so this is not a "wait until November" situation. The spots are claimable today and the cheaper centers go first.
One thing that surprises new families: Safekey does not operate on non-school days. It runs before and after school on school days. No-School Fun Day is the replacement, and the city routes registration for it through the Safekey system, so start at the city's camps page and confirm the sign-up path if you're new to it.
The Friday Nov 27 problem
The city does not offer No-School Fun Day on Nov 27. We checked the posted list specifically, and that Friday isn't on it.
If you work that Friday, your realistic options are:
- Henderson's Battle Born Kids, if you live or work in Henderson and the November dates get posted (details below).
- Clark County Parks & Rec day camp, which the county lists at $21 per day on school breaks. The county hadn't posted Thanksgiving dates when we checked, so call 702-455-8200 to ask whether Nov 25 and 27 are on the schedule.
- A YMCA one-day holiday camp, if they add one. The Y's holiday camp page lists MLK, Presidents Day, spring break, Labor Day, fall break and winter break, but no Thanksgiving camp is named and no prices are posted. Ages 5 to 15, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Heinrich, Durango Hills and Centennial Hills branches. Ask directly: childcare@lasvegasymca.org.
- A gym or studio that runs break camps. Several Las Vegas gymnastics, ninja and STEM programs run camps on school-break days without advertising them far ahead. Call the one your kid already attends first, since they'll usually take a current student.
- Make it the family day it's named after, if your work allows.
Given how thin the confirmed Friday options are, if you need coverage, start calling the week of Nov 9 rather than the week of the break.
Henderson: Battle Born Kids
Henderson's no-school-day program is Battle Born Kids, weekdays 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at select rec centers. It has charged by the week, with lower per-child pricing for siblings and drop-in days when space allows.
What isn't posted: any November 2026 dates or this year's fees. The program's page on the city site was not loading when we checked in October 2026, so call Henderson Parks and Recreation or check the city's parks and recreation page before counting on it.
Henderson's Safekey and Teen Scene follow the CCSD calendar, so both are closed Nov 25 and 27.
North Las Vegas and Clark County
North Las Vegas Safekey runs at CCSD school sites only on days the district is in session, and closes for federal holidays. So it is not an option for this break, and we found no North Las Vegas no-school camp posted for November.
Clark County Parks & Rec runs a day camp for ages 6 to 12 (5 if they've finished kindergarten), 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., at $21 per child per day as the county lists it. Locations include Desert Breeze, Helen Meyer, Hollywood, Paradise, Bob Price, Silverado Ranch and Walnut. The page describes it as covering school breaks and staff development days, but the only registration dates posted are for summer. Call 702-455-8200.
Free and cheap things to do on the days off
The Las Vegas Turkey Trot runs on Thanksgiving morning, Nov 26, on the Historic Railroad Trail at Lake Mead National Recreation Area in Boulder City. There's a 1-mile option alongside the 5K, 12K and half marathon, with staggered morning starts. This year's start times and prices weren't posted when we checked, so look at the race site before you sign up. It's a genuinely good first race for a kid who can run a mile.
On Saturdays, the Nevada State Museum in Las Vegas runs Discovery Saturdays, hands-on family activities that are free with museum admission, so check its calendar for Nov 28. The library district also runs free programs all week; our free events feed is the fastest way to see what's on any given day.
While you're at it, book winter break
Winter break is the long one: Dec 21 through Jan 4. The City of Las Vegas has already opened its winter camps for Dec 21-24 and Dec 28-31, ages 5 to 14, with an adaptive program for ages 5 to 18 at Dula. The city lists $120 a week at Becker, Cimarron Rose, Mirabelli and Veterans Memorial, or $80 a week at Doolittle, Dula and Stupak. Registration is open "until full," and the cheaper sites fill first. Booking both breaks in one sitting in October is the least painful way to do this.
FAQ
What days is CCSD closed for Thanksgiving 2026? Wednesday Nov 25, Thursday Nov 26 and Friday Nov 27. Monday Nov 23 and Tuesday Nov 24 are regular school days. Nov 25 is also the district's First Contingency Day, so it could become a makeup day if CCSD needs one.
Is there childcare on Friday Nov 27 in Las Vegas? Not from the City of Las Vegas. Its No-School Fun Day runs Nov 25 only, and Nov 27 is not on the posted list. Henderson's Battle Born Kids, the Clark County day camp and YMCA holiday camps are the places to ask, but none had posted Nov 27 dates when we checked, so call ahead.
How much does a no-school day camp cost in Las Vegas? City of Las Vegas No-School Fun Day is listed at $20 or $35 a day depending on the center. Clark County lists its day camp at $21 per day. Henderson's Battle Born Kids charges by the week and offers drop-in days when space allows; check its site for current prices.
Does Safekey run during Thanksgiving break? No. Safekey operates before and after school on school days, in Las Vegas, Henderson and North Las Vegas alike. The City of Las Vegas No-School Fun Day is the stand-in on closure days, and it requires separate advance registration.
When should I register for Thanksgiving break camp? Now, if you need the Nov 25 city camp: registration is already open and the centers listed at $20 fill first. For anything on Nov 27, start calling providers in early November, because most have not published their holiday schedules yet.
