About the Program

Nevada Youth Sports (NYS) runs coed youth leagues around Las Vegas, with soccer for ages 3 to 14 and basketball for ages 4 to 15. Its other leagues cover baseball, cheerleading, flag football, tackle football and volleyball.

Soccer starts with 3-4U Rec and moves up through 6U Rec, 8U Rec, 10U Rec and 12U Rec, then tops out with a 14U division. Basketball has rec divisions from 5U Rec to 11U Rec, plus elite divisions from 9U Elite to 15U Elite. Games in both sports land on Saturdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Soccer plays at local schools or parks, and basketball uses schools, Boys & Girls Clubs and private gyms.

Teams are built from coach requests, friend requests and zip codes, and recreational coaches are parent volunteers. Before games start, most rec teams practice up to twice a week for about an hour, then drop to once a week. Schedules usually come out about one week before the first game, and updates arrive through the LeagueApps Play App.

For soccer, kids need athletic shoes or soccer cleats (no metal or baseball cleats), shin guards and a ball: size 3 for ages 3 to 8, size 4 for ages 9 to 12, size 5 for ages 13 to 14. Registrations are generally non-refundable, but a request made before games begin usually earns a league credit that never expires. Team photos and trophies are optional and not part of the registration fee.
