About the Program

Rare Spark Lessons is a Summerlin music school offering private voice and instrument lessons plus group bands for kids, teens and adults. Founder Christi O'Donnell teaches piano, guitar, voice, ukulele, bass and drums.

Private lessons are sold as monthly packages of four weekly lessons: $150 a month for 30 minutes, $200 for 45 minutes and $250 for 60 minutes. Single lessons cost $75 for 30 minutes, $100 for 45 and $125 for 60, which suits a child who wants to test an instrument before committing. The first trial lesson is free. The studio closes for holidays and breaks on its yearly calendar, and it tries to keep four lessons in each month anyway.

Many students pair private lessons with a group, such as vocal ensemble, rock band or jazz band. Everyone gets a monthly practice performance, soloists play recitals, and students perform at Downtown Container Park. Every student is tested each quarter on ear training, rhythm, technique and theory, and teachers help teens prepare for high school and college auditions. Students can also learn recording, mixing and music production in the studio's Room One, which runs Logic, Pro Tools and Ableton Live.
