About the Program
Xtreme Couture MMA on West Sunset Road runs youth classes that start at ages 4 to 6 and go up through the Youth Program for ages 7 to 13, alongside its boxing, wrestling and MMA programs. Little ones start in Mini's Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a half-hour class from 4:30 to 5:00 PM on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Along with basic movements, each Minis practice has a stretch of guided sparring.
Older kids move to the youth BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU class, Monday and Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. The class times list Ages 6 to 12, while the program write-up says 7 to 13, so ask which fits your child. Beginners and kids who already compete train together, and several black belt instructors share the mat.
BANG MUAY THAI meets Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 to 7:00 PM plus Saturday from 12:00 to 1:00 PM. It follows the striking system created by Sensei Duane Ludwig and is meant to feed into the adult BMT classes, so a teen can keep training in the same gym. A separate kids fitness class for ages 6 to 12 works on footwork and strength with ladder drills and kettlebells.
Pack water, and leave glass bottles at home, since glass is not allowed. Muay Thai kids need boxing gloves and shin guards, and fitness kids need athletic shoes. Ask about membership prices when you book a first class.
