About the Program

Leaders of the Future is a Clark County Parks and Recreation volunteer leadership program for teens ages 13-17, run out of county recreation and community centers around the valley. Teen Leaders help with community service projects and get leadership practice, job training and social time with other teens.

This is an application program, not a drop-in class. A teen fills out the Teen Leader application plus a Clark County Volunteer application, then sits for an interview with the program supervisor at the center. Spots depend on the paperwork, the interview and how many openings that center has. Desert Breeze also wants two letters of recommendation from people outside the family. At the Bob Price center, applications open each April, so spring is the time to ask.

There are rules. Applicants cannot have a record of discipline problems in county programs or a suspension or expulsion during the current school year. New Teen Leaders put in up to 15 hours per week during the school year and up to 20 hours per week over breaks, which fits well with a teen who wants volunteer hours.

The program runs at county centers including Desert Breeze, Hollywood, Paradise, Silverado Ranch, Whitney and Winchester Dondero. Call your nearest center for openings.
