About the Program

YMCA of Southern Nevada runs gymnastics classes for ages 18 months to 13 years at two Las Vegas branches, 3521 N Durango Dr (89129) and 6601 N Buffalo Dr (89131).

The youngest start in Parent/Child Gymnastics for ages 18 months to 2 years, where a parent works alongside the child. TOTs is for toddlers and preschool-age kids, built around rolling, crawling, climbing, jumping and balancing. School-age kids pick between Beginner Gymnastics for ages 6-13, which needs no experience and adds ballet for gymnastics and a first look at the apparatus, and Intermediate Gymnastics for ages 6-12, which moves into limbers, walkovers and roundoffs.

Tumbling is split the same way. Beginner Tumbling covers cartwheels, limbers and walkovers, and Intermediate Tumbling works on saltos, aerials and twists.

For class prices and times, call Durango at (702) 240-9622 or Buffalo at (702) 478-9622 before registering.

First Visit Guide

What most gymnastics gyms expect. Confirm the details with YMCA Gymnastics before you go.

What to bring

  • A leotard, or a fitted t-shirt with shorts or leggings. No buttons, zippers, snaps, or skirts.
  • Bare feet, hair tied back, water bottle
  • Leave jewelry at home.

Before you go

  • Arrive 10 to 15 minutes early for waivers.
  • Most gyms keep street shoes off the floor, so easy slip-offs help.
  • Ask where the parent viewing area is.

The first visit

Class runs in stations: bars, beam, floor, trampoline, with coaches rotating the groups. Classes group by age first, then skill, and you'll usually get a placement recommendation after class.

For sensory-sensitive kids

Gyms are big, loud, and busy to look at. Ask about weekday morning classes, and whether they run a quieter open play time. Several valley gyms do.
