About the Program
Vargas Boxing & Jiu Jitsu, at 3900 N. Rancho Drive, Suite #101 in the northwest valley, is the gym of the Fernando Vargas Fighting Foundation, a nonprofit started by three-time world boxing champion Fernando Vargas and his wife Martha. It trains kids ages 8 to 18.
Kids Boxing meets Monday to Friday at 5:00 pm, and Kids Jiu Jitsu follows at 6:00 pm, so a child can do one or both after school. The foundation pairs the training with tutoring, confidence work, nutrition lessons and anti-bullying strategies. The gym's own packing list is short: homework, a water bottle and gloves. Adult boxing and jiu jitsu classes run later in the evening, which helps if a parent wants to train the same night.
