About the Program
Greater Youth Sports Association is a nonprofit that runs its Panthers club teams out of its own gym at 2900 N. Torrey Pines Drive, at the Torrey Pines Resource Community Center in the northwest valley. Basketball is co-ed for grades 2 through 7 (Ages 7 to 13), and volleyball is co-ed for grades 5 through 7 (Ages 9 to 13). Kids who are new to the sport and kids with experience both have a place, on recreational or competitive teams.
Teams practice twice a week for two hours, between 5:30 and 8 PM: basketball on Tuesdays and Thursdays, volleyball on Mondays and Wednesdays. Seasons run all year, in fall, winter, spring and summer, and teams play in local leagues and tournaments. Registration includes uniforms, a warm-up shirt, weekly mentoring lessons, team photos, bonding outings, a team banquet, and entry into leagues and tournaments.
GYSA also runs an Elementary Sports League for school teams, with six game days a season aimed at beginner and intermediate players. Through its partnership at the Torrey Pines center, it lists free sports clinics and youth open gym sessions too.
Ask about fees when you register. The group's stated mission is keeping organized sports within reach for kids whose families cannot afford typical club costs, so it is worth asking about help if cost is the barrier.

First Visit Guide
What most youth sports programs expect. Confirm the details with Greater Youth Sports Association before you go.
What to bring
- Water, and then more water. In this valley the heat decides practice more than the coach does from May through September.
- Athletic clothes, sunscreen, and a hat for outdoor fields
- Sport basics if you own them. Lots of intro programs lend gear for trials, so ask before buying.
Before you go
- Confirm the exact field or court. The big parks have a dozen and the 215 traffic doesn't forgive a wrong guess.
- Summer schedules shift to early evening for the heat. Check the seasonal calendar.
- Day one usually has paperwork and team assignment, so come early.
The first visit
Expect drills and small-sided play. Leagues group by birth year. Before you commit, ask how many practices there are per game and where the games actually get played, because home field can mean Henderson one week and North Las Vegas the next.
For sensory-sensitive kids
Whistles and sideline noise are the hard part. Ask about clinic-style sessions that are skills only, with no game crowd, as a first step.
