About the Program

NextGen Horizon Foundation is a Las Vegas area nonprofit that teaches kids and teens coding, web and game design, AI projects and chess, and it runs a free chess club in Las Vegas open to all ages.

The chess side is the easiest place to start. The community club is free, needs no experience and asks players to bring their own board; USCF-rated coaches give tips, and players can opt in to have games reviewed on the club's live stream. For more structure, NextGen offers one-on-one lessons online or in person, online group lessons with a weekly theme and weekly tournament access, and chess clubs for schools and after-school programs. Students move up by skill, not by age.

The tech programs cover app development, game design and website development. The website program teaches HTML, CSS and JavaScript on the front end and Node.js or Python on the back end, with separate tracks for design, back-end systems and full-stack work.

First Visit Guide

What most STEM programs expect. Confirm the details with NextGen Horizon Foundation before you go.

What to bring

  • Usually nothing. Laptops, robots, and kits are provided. Ask whether you should set up an account or bring a login first.
  • Water bottle, and glasses if your child uses them for screens

Before you go

  • Ask which platform the class uses (Scratch, Roblox, Python, LEGO robotics) and whether projects carry over week to week.
  • No experience needed is the norm for intro tracks. Confirm the age band.

The first visit

The first session is a build-along or code-along with a show-and-tell at the end. Teachers figure out your child's pace fast and place them accordingly.

For sensory-sensitive kids

Screens plus group noise can stack up. Ask about headphones and smaller groups.
