Las Vegas Piano Music School, in Crossroads Plaza on S. Fort Apache Rd., teaches piano, voice, violin, cello and guitar, and runs Yamaha Music Education System group classes for young children starting at age 4.

The school offers two routes for young beginners. The Junior Music Course is for ages 4 to 5: one class a week for 2 years, with a parent in the room, up to 10 kids per class, and 50 minute classes once there are more than 3 students. Kids sing, play keyboard games, move to rhythm and start reading notes, and the Young Musicians Course picks up ages 6 to 8. The Yamaha approach builds broad music skills before a child commits to one instrument, which can suit a preschooler who is not ready for private piano.

Private lessons are the other path. Violin starts as young as 4 and runs through adult, and for every instrument the school suggests 30 minute lessons for beginners, 45 minutes as kids advance and 60 minutes for serious repertoire. Pianos in the studios include Steinway, Baldwin, Yamaha and Kawai grands, and students are encouraged to play in school recitals.
