Navigate This Guide#
Childbirth classes teach you what to expect in labor and how to care for a newborn in the first days. Las Vegas gives you three routes: hospital series, private prep with a doula or midwife, and free community classes. Here is how they compare.
Hospital Birthplace classes#
The most common starting point is the Birthplace series at the hospital where you plan to deliver. **[Summerlin](/las-vegas/summerlin) Hospital** (8509 Del Rey Ave, 89117) and **Spring Valley Hospital** (5400 S Rainbow Blvd, 89118) cover labor, delivery, breastfeeding, and newborn basics. **MountainView Hospital** (3100 N Tenaya Way, 89128) runs a lower-cost series and adds a sibling class, and **Southern Hills Hospital** offers prenatal and infant-care classes. Register early in the third trimester; these fill before due-date waves.
Private and small-group birth prep#
If you want a smaller setting or a specific philosophy, doulas and midwives teach private childbirth prep. **Vegas Family Doulas**, **Bella Luna Birth Services**, and **Ebony Hall** pair childbirth education with birth support, and midwives **Your Happy Homebirth** (Sherry Hopkins, CPM) and **The Joyful Birth** include prep with their care. **Well Rounded Momma** bundles childbirth education with newborn-care and postpartum classes.
Free and low-cost options#
You can prepare without paying. **Classes and Resources for Parents** at University Medical Center, off West Charleston, runs free childbirth, breastfeeding, and newborn-care classes. **Dignity Health** and **MyOBGYN Las Vegas** also offer parent classes covering childbirth prep, breastfeeding, and car-seat safety at low or no cost.
How to choose#
Start with where you will deliver, since the hospital series is built around that unit and staff. Add a private class only if you want a particular method or a smaller group. Whatever you pick, book it for several weeks before your due date, not the final stretch, so you finish before the baby has other plans.
