About the Program
Studio Flute is a flute teaching studio in Henderson run by Emma Pease Byron, who teaches ages 5 to adult and has a short preschool lesson for ages 3 to 6. She has run the studio since 2003 and also plays around the valley with groups like the Nevada Pops Ensemble and Vegas City Opera.
Private lessons are weekly, and the length grows with the player: 15 minutes for preschoolers, 30 minutes at the beginning level, 45 minutes at the intermediate level, and 60 minutes for advanced, pre-collegiate players. Besides lessons there are three group classes. Toot Flute Troupe is for early elementary kids, Reading Club is for late elementary and middle school, and Flute Choir is for advanced players.
Students can play in solo recitals, the Hauntcert and a formal spring recital, and can sit theory and musicianship exams or enter competitions and festivals. Emma says her students have earned seats in the Clark County School District Honor Band and the Nevada All-State Honor Band, which is useful to know for a middle schooler in school band.
